Project Challenges
Sports fans read on the move — before kick-off, at half-time, and the moment the final whistle blows — so a sports homepage has only seconds to show the result, the line-up, or the transfer story readers came for, in fluent Arabic and on whatever screen they have in hand. The challenge was to turn a fast-moving, football-heavy newsroom into a clear, energetic right-to-left experience: a category structure that keeps Football and Latest News front and center while giving tennis, basketball, running, cycling, swimming, handball, volleyball, and winter sports homes of their own; a homepage that balances a lead story, a Spotlight selection, the most popular stories, a dedicated football block, and a continuous stream of more news without feeling cluttered; listing pages and an archive that already run to well over a hundred pages; article pages built for quick reading and sharing; reader features such as saved bookmarks and a dark mode; and a simple way for readers to get in touch — all while keeping image-rich pages light enough to load quickly on mobile connections.
Project Deliverables
UX/UI Design
We designed a bold, sport-led interface in Malaeb’s identity — the red-and-black Arabic wordmark with its football emblem, a solid black header, crisp white reading space, and red category badges that make every story’s sport instantly recognizable. The header keeps the main menu (Home, Sports News, Contact Us), bookmarks, a dark-mode switch, and search within reach, with a sports bar beneath it for Football, Tennis, Running, Cycling, Baseball, Skiing, and more. The homepage opens with a full-width lead story that sets the headline, category tag, reading time, and comment count over the match photo, followed by a strip of three more headlines. It continues with a Spotlight section, a Most Popular list, a numbered Football block, and a More News grid of image cards with excerpts, dates, and one-tap bookmarking, closing with a dark footer of key pages and the best articles. Section pages pair a clean title band, drawn with subtle pitch lines, with a three-column card grid and pagination, while article pages put the category badge, headline, date, and sharing to Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp up front, with Recent Posts, Categories, and Best of the Week in the sidebar and previous/next story links below. The entire experience is designed natively right to left with clear Arabic typography, and a compact mobile header keeps the menu, bookmarks, and dark mode one tap away.
Website Development
We built a responsive, Arabic-first WordPress sports news website with Elementor, with a full right-to-left layout and a publishing workflow that lets the editorial team post and categorize stories throughout the day across Football, Latest News, Tennis, Basketball, Running, Cycling, Swimming, Handball, Volleyball, and more. The site includes the Home page, a Sports News listing with author, date, comment, and view counts, category archives for every sport, single-article templates with social sharing and previous/next navigation, and a Contact Us page with an enquiry form (name, email, phone, and message), the [email protected] address, and an embedded map of Cairo, plus a Terms & Conditions page. Reader accounts with registration, login, and password reset power a personal bookmarks page, and a light/dark mode switch adapts the reading experience. The build includes paginated archives, built-in search, SEO metadata with Open Graph and Twitter cards for clean link previews, structured data, and an XML sitemap, and every template is tuned for speed across desktop and mobile so fans can follow the latest sports news anytime, from anywhere.
